Practicing alone is useful, but practicing against other people is what actually sharpens a trader. That's the idea behind Rooms — MegaBull's built-in trading tournament feature. A Room lets you and a group of friends, colleagues, or strangers compete on a leaderboard using the same starting virtual balance, over a fixed window, with a winner decided by whoever trades best. This guide walks through exactly what a Room is and every step to create, join, and compete in one.
What Are Rooms?
A Room is an isolated trading tournament. When you create or join one, you get a separate virtual balance, and separate positions, holdings, and orders, that exist only inside that Room — completely apart from your main paper-trading account. You compete against the other members for a fixed window of up to 31 days, and the platform ranks everyone by whichever metric the Room's creator picked: P&L, ROI, hit rate, or trade count.
| Balance | A fresh virtual balance per Room, separate from your main account |
| Visibility | Public (anyone can find and join) or Private (invite-only) |
| Duration | Up to 31 days, closing at 4 PM IST on the chosen end date |
| Members | 2 to 1000, set by the room creator |
| Ranked by | ROI, P&L, hit rate, or trade count — creator's choice |
| Real money involved | None — 100% virtual, for gaming and learning only |
How to Create a Room
Anyone can set up a Room in a couple of minutes:
- Open the Rooms menu in the navbar — it's the dropdown that contains "Rooms" and "Leaderboard" — and select Rooms.
- Tap Create Room.
-
Fill in the form:
- Room Name and an optional description
- Public (anyone can find and join) or Private (invite-only)
- Virtual Money — the starting balance every member gets
- Max Members — anywhere from 2 to 1000
- Room Ends On — a date picker capped at 31 days out; the room always closes at 4 PM IST on the date you pick
- Optional trading restrictions — limit the room to specific segments (NSE, NFO, BFO) and/or order durations (MIS, CNC)
- Winner criteria — rank by ROI, P&L, hit rate, or trade count, plus a tie-breaker, a minimum number of trades to qualify, and how many winners the room recognizes
- Tap Create Room. You're automatically joined as the owner and dropped straight into the room's detail page.
How to Join a Room
There are three ways to join a Room, all starting from the Rooms page:
- Browse Public Rooms — switch to the "Public Rooms" tab, search by name, and tap Join on any card.
- Join by Code — tap the Join by Code button and enter the 8-character code. The same flow works for a public room's share code and a private room's invite code, so you don't need to know in advance which kind it is.
- Invite by email — a room owner can invite you directly; you'll get an email with a join code to enter through the same Join by Code flow.
Every join shows a confirmation first, spelling out that you're getting a separate virtual balance for that Room, so there's no confusion about which account you're trading in.
Leaderboards: Per-Room and Global
MegaBull tracks performance at two levels:
- Per-room leaderboard — inside a room's detail page, ranked by that room's configured criteria (P&L, ROI, hit rate, or trades), with each trader's badge icon shown next to their name.
- Global leaderboard — its own screen, reached via Rooms menu → Leaderboard, ranking every trader platform-wide by their overall rating, independent of any single room.
Badges, Levels & Tiers
Every room you play feeds into a platform-wide rating and badge system. You can check yours in a few places:
- Profile page — a dedicated Badge card showing your current tier, level (1–50), a progress bar to the next tier, and career stats: rooms played, rooms won, top-3 finishes, and win streak, along with best ROI.
- Rooms page — a "my badge" strip at the top that links through to the leaderboard, plus every room card shows its creator's badge.
- Room and global leaderboards — a badge icon appears next to every trader's name.
There are five tiers, climbed by rating:
- Retail Investor
- Day Trader
- Prop Trader
- Market Maker
- The Whale — an exclusive top tier
Your rating moves up or down after each room settles, based on how you placed and how you traded — it isn't purely cumulative, so a bad room can knock you down a tier just as a strong one can push you up. When a room you played settles and your rating crosses into a new tier, you get a full-screen celebration the next time you open the app; dropping a tier shows up as a quieter notification instead.
Trading Inside a Room
A workspace switcher on the Orders, Positions, Holdings, and Buy/Sell screens lets you flip between "Default" (your main account) and any room you've currently joined. Everything you see and every trade you place is scoped to whichever workspace is selected, so your main account's positions and a room's positions never mix.
Managing a Room You Own
As the owner, you get a few extra controls:
- Remove a member — this settles them out of the room the same way as if they'd left voluntarily.
- View the join code — so you can share it with people you want to invite.
How many rooms you can create or join at once scales with your subscription tier — check your plan details in the app for the exact limits.
A Simple Example
Say you and nine friends want to run a two-week trading contest. One of you creates a Private Room, sets ₹5,00,000 virtual money per member, restricts it to NSE equity and intraday (MIS) orders, sets the winner criteria to ROI with a minimum of 10 trades to qualify, and shares the 8-character invite code in your group chat. Everyone joins with the code, switches their workspace to that room, and trades for two weeks. When the room closes at 4 PM IST on the end date, the leaderboard locks in and the top performer is decided — all without a single rupee of real money changing hands.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is a Room in MegaBull?
A Room is an isolated virtual trading tournament with its own starting balance, positions, holdings, and orders, separate from your main paper-trading account. You compete against other members for a fixed window of up to 31 days, ranked by P&L, ROI, hit rate, or trade count.
Is real money involved in Rooms?
No. Rooms use 100% virtual money for gaming and educational purposes only. There are no cash prizes, wagers, or payouts of any kind. MegaBull does not conduct, facilitate, or encourage betting or gambling of any sort, and is not responsible for any private arrangement users may make among themselves outside the platform.
How long can a Room run for?
A Room can run for a maximum of 31 days. You pick the end date on a date picker while creating the Room, and it automatically closes at 4 PM IST on that date.
How many members can join a Room?
A Room can have anywhere from 2 to 1000 members, depending on what the creator sets as the maximum. How many rooms you can create or join at once also depends on your subscription plan.
What happens if I leave a Room?
Leaving a Room squares off all your open positions and cancels pending orders in that Room, then removes you from it. This action is irreversible, and you'll see a confirmation before it happens.
How do rankings and badges work?
Each Room has its own leaderboard based on the criteria the creator chose (P&L, ROI, hit rate, or trade count). Separately, there's a global leaderboard that ranks every trader by an overall rating that goes up or down after each Room settles, placing you into one of five tiers from Retail Investor up to The Whale.
Conclusion
Rooms turn solo paper trading into a competitive, social experience — create a tournament, invite your circle or the public, trade with a shared virtual balance, and see who actually performs best under the same rules and the same clock. Combined with badges and a global rating, it's a fun way to benchmark yourself against other traders while you build real skill, entirely risk-free. Ready to try it?
